Dom Pachino - The Napalm General Rises Again (August 26th 2015)

Dom Pachino has been putting in work on the underground scene for over 20 years. After dropping three classic group albums with Killarmy, he embarked on a solo career that has seen him release more than ten projects through his own Napalm Recordings imprint. After a few years away from the mic, he’s now back with a full length collaboration album with acclaimed beat maker Bronze Nazareth.  The album marks the beginning of what seems to be a new era for Dom Pachino, as he describes the problems he has had with distributing previous releases and why he has now taken that into his own hands.  Listening to the album, Dom sounds like a new man, he sounds completely rejuvenated, re-energised and is spitting like he did back in the Killarmy days.  We touch on a lot of subjects throughout the interview including the reason he called out Cilvaringz on the new album, and he even turns the tables to ask a few questions of his own…

PATTCH82: What’s up man?

DOM PACHINO: Peace, what’s going on Chris?

P82: Yeah I’m good man, you?

DP: I’m good man, not bad, not bad.

P82: So the new album dropped on August 15^th.  The reaction has been really positive so far, you must be happy with the feedback that it’s getting…?

DP: Oh yeah definitely man.  It took about a year to put the project together being that Bronze is in Detroit and I’m in New York so we had to work it out you know.  But yeah, the response has been real positive, I’m really happy with it.

Sick Jacken Interview (November 12th 2014)

Sick Jacken is a veteran in the game. After being co-signed by B-Real he dropped the debut Psycho Realm album in 1997. Tragedy struck soon after when his brother and partner in rhyme Big Duke was shot and left paralysed. Since then Jacken has emerged as one of the illest and most well respected MC’s working today. I recently had the opportunity to speak with Jacken and put some questions to him. We touched on a lot of different points of his career so far, from discussing his classic project with DJ Muggs at length to his work with Cynic and the possibility of a true solo album.

Apollo Brown Interview (October 27th 2014)

Apollo Brown is a producer with a rep. When you check out an Apollo Brown album you know what you are going to get: dusty samples, boom bap drums, dope beats.  He has already worked with a who’s who of top MC’s from O.C. and Guilty Simpson to Chino XL and Ghostface Killah. Now he has teamed up with west coast veteran Ras Kass for the collaboration album Blasphemy. I recently had the opportunity to speak with Apollo and put some questions to him about the new album as well as some of his previous projects.

PATTCH82: Thanks for taking the time to speak with me…

APOLLO BROWN: No doubt man, I’m just sitting here sorting out a few things.

P82: So first off, the Blasphemy album is due to drop officially tomorrow (Oct 28), can you tell me a bit about the album?

AB: Actually we dropped it five days early man so it’s been out since the 23rd.  It’s due officially in stores tomorrow definitely, you know the physical in stores everywhere. As far as iTunes and getting it online, it dropped, it’s out. So yeah it’s been out this week, it’s out.

P82: What kind of sound or feel were you aiming for with the album?

AB: Just like your typical Apollo Brown man, I try to get people feeling. I try to give people the most feeling I can give them because that’s the music I like. If it doesn’t have feeling then I don’t want anything to do with it.  The album has a political undertone, it has a religious undertone and it’s basically Ras Kass doing what Ras Kass does best and Apollo Brown doing what Apollo Brown does best, and the two coming together for the perfect marriage.  It’s a rollercoaster man, the album goes up and down and it gives you a bunch of different feelings but comes together very consistent. It’s raw hip-hop at its best man.

PATTCH82: How did you guys hook up with Inspectah Deck…?  Was ‘Speaking Real Words’ back in 1999 the first time you had met…?

7L: Yeah that was definitely the first time we met, recording that in Brooklyn in 1999 or so. Our manager at the time worked at Loud Records and Deck was on the roster.

PATTCH82: You then hooked up again for the ‘12th Chamber’ track a few years ago.  Is that when talk of this CZARFACE collaboration started…?

7L: Yeah that’s when the conversations started for sure.

Prince Paul - Gravediggaz Interview (July 18th 2013)

I first spoke with Prince Paul in September 2012 for an interview that covered pretty much his whole career. The interview got a great response when it went up online, particularly the questions about the Gravediggaz. Since then I wanted to reconnect with him to discuss the first Gravediggaz record in more detail. It is a stone cold classic in my opinion and I had a lot of questions for him.

I finally got the opportunity to speak with Paul again last week and I focussed the entire hour long interview on the creation of Niggamortis/6 Feet Deep. Paul was in an especially talkative mood so the interview is really in depth. We breakdown the album track-by-track as well as discussing the problems he had trying to get a deal for the group, getting the record out and much more.


I feel this is the definitive interview when it comes to 6 Feet Deep, I don’t think Paul has ever spoken in as much detail about the making of this album. So sit back, take some time and enjoy the read... Like I said, it’s very long!

Chaotik Stylz Interview (July 17th 2013)

Chaotik Stylz just dropped his first official release via Brick Records on July 16th. ‘The Subliminal Substance’ is fully produced by OH NO except for two tracks, one of which is produced by DJ Romes, the other by Georgia Anne Muldrow. Features on the album include Oh No, M.E.D., Roc C, Declaime, Romes and Georgia Anne Muldrow amongst others.

The album is dark, gritty, and covers every aspect of Chaotik’s life whilst he was literally going through chaos. From dealing with drug addiction, to his Mother passing away, trying to raise his daughters, trying to succeed in the rap game whilst holding down a 9 to 5.

I recently spoke to Chaotik and we discussed all of the above plus the making of his album, how he hooked up with Oh No, his past and what he hopes for the future…

PATTCH82: First off, the new album Eyrth, Wynd And Fyre is set to drop on February 12th. How do you feel it stacks up against your other solo records…?

CAPPADONNA: It’s just different man, it’s more together you know what I mean? The message is a little more clearer and I think it’s just an all around tighter album production wise. Big up my man J. Glaze on the production tip.

P82: There are a lot of lesser known producers on the album. They did hook you up with some bangers though…

CAPPA: Yeah man it’s just something different you know. I always want to give the underdogs a chance to shine through. We been reigning in the game for over ten years and it’s always good to be able to look back at the brothers that’s trying to come up and do they thing man, and give them a chance. It is a sacrifice as well, because when you do this a lot of people look at you like your value is lessening. But really, your value as an individual is increasing because that’s a wonderful and good thing to do for people man.

PATTCH82: First off, what is the concept behind your new album Negroes On Ice...? Didn’t it start out as a theatre show of some sort, like a comedy/sketch show…?

PRINCE PAUL: The concept is kinda like a day in the life of a teenager, obviously it’s highly exaggerated, it’s more or less like a story that builds into music and goes into the story, almost like A Prince Among Thieves but this is more like a one man show type of thing where he kinda gets up and just tells everything about what his day is like, it’s like a bizarre exaggerated day in the life of a teenager. To be honest it’s really stupid… it’s just bizarre. It’s really hard to describe, some people listen to it and think it’s great, some people listen to it and think I’m ruining Hip-Hop and here, there and everything else so we’ll see.
